Bond set for ex-middle school teacher accused of sex battery on minor
As you read this article, ask yourself a few questions:
- What types of boundaries did this teacher cross before he allegedly molested this student?
- What general policies could be put in place to keep those boundaries from being crossed?
- What type of permanent record do you think the state has for tracking the boundaries that were crossed before the sexual abuse allegedly occurred? You might be shocked to find out that many states, including Utah, allow the teachers' unions to negotiate, as a part of their contract, that EVERY negative note made on a teacher's record gets erased when they renew their license. Without a permanent record, it is next-to-impossible to spot patterns of grooming. Legislators in Utah are working to correct this problem. Is your state?
